eye of woman

As soon as the clock strikes seven, I simply click the “shut down” button of mycomputer, get hold of my clutch bag, and start doing my hairs. After putting on a shade of the lip gloss I leave from office on my way to home so that I don’t get to miss my favorite Star Plus soaps.

Needless to mention, they are a must have of my life. Like most people, me and my family stay glued to the television and till the show lasts. I’ve observed the theme of these soaps for long. Interestingly, in most soaps, the protagonist happens to be a strong willed woman hailing from a middle class background. They fight against all odds and come out victorious in the end. A good number of people, men to be specific, term it as a typical melodramatic serial that really stirs the emotional chord of human beings. Be it Parvati from Kahaani Ghar Ghar ki, or Kasturi from the serial titled the same or Prerna Bajaj from Kasauti Zindagi Kay, singing the ballad of the middle class saga.

Perhaps, on the surface it appears like a typical soap trying to encash on middle class sentiments, but the turbulance of a girl on her way to become a social figure is something we all can relate to. Perhaps each one of us has gone through this particular phase of life when you are eager to put a mark of your identity in this world. It is a time when your lofty principals taught in literature books are being put to test. And when your principals and ideas are not really backed by Sugar Daddy, the life is tough. Being a middle class woman is never easy. I myself hail from a middle class background and I know what it takes to prove your worth against all dominating forces. Whereas your parents appreciate you to have be a soft demeanor, the same wouldn’t fit into the corporate dealings. Its really a great struggle to pick up diplomacy by pushing aside your innocent teenage. When it comes to spending a romantic evening with your boyfriend or husband, you need to let go of your corporate image and be his perfect nice wife. In most cases, you have to respect his ego and succumb to his wishes. Though it doesn’t hold true with everyone, but in most cases, it is him who take the upper hand.

Interestingly in most Saas-bahu soaps, the turmoil begins when a middle class Cinderella gets married to a rich prince. She has to get over the daunting remarks from in-laws and protect her husband’s love for her. Sometimes she is required to forgo her job either to please her husband or for the sake of devoting time for children. It is like sacrificing the independence for the sake of love. This is actually the saga of a middle class woman ..where you sacrifice yourself for holding close your possessions…until one fine morning, you wake up to find yourself caged inside the wooden frames of the window..and as you look further, you realize that the end of the rainbow is quite far from the next block of building.
